Currently based in Brooklyn, Denver-born psych crew WOODSMAN just dropped their third studio album on Fire Talk Records (more on that later). Their current tour just concluded over the past weekend with their record release show in New York City. The night before they made a stop in Philadelphia, bringing their experimental psych rock to Kung Fu Necktie on a Friday night. Philly-based band SCHOOL GIRL kicked things off. They specialize in a form of primitive protopunk, playing their second show to date. Grungy punk n’ roll trio LANTERN followed up, playing some tracks from their 2013 debut and a few other choice nuggets. Friday’s Find: Purling Hiss – Paisley Montage
PURLING HISS’ Paisley Montage was originally supposed to be a tour-only cassette tape in 2011. Unfortunately it never saw the light of day because the band left the whole box of brand new tapes on top of their tour van and drove off. The end result was a bunch of destroyed cassettes along the Schuylkill Expressway, ultimately leaving Philadelphia’s Richie Records to re-release the album on vinyl. Friday’s Find: Verma – Coltan
Chicago-based psychedelic band VERMA just released their second full-length LP Coltan. The album was originally released as a limited edition cassette by Notes & Bolts for Vice Magazine’s Guide to the Congo mini-series in 2012.
