Currently based in Brooklyn, Denver-born psych crew WOODSMAN just dropped their third studio album on Fire Talk Records (more on that later). Their current tour just concluded over the past weekend with their record release show in New York City. The night before they made a stop in Philadelphia, bringing their experimental psych rock to Kung Fu Necktie on a Friday night. Philly-based band SCHOOL GIRL kicked things off. They specialize in a form of primitive protopunk, playing their second show to date. Grungy punk n’ roll trio LANTERN followed up, playing some tracks from their 2013 debut and a few other choice nuggets. It was their first show in awhile but they were right on point, evidenced by these videos after the jump:
School Girl:
Lantern – King of the Jungle:
Lantern – Out of Our Heads:
Woodsman – Healthy Life:
“Healthy Life” is the lead single from Woodsman’s latest LP. We caught a full eight minute dose of slithering guitars and haze, held together by tribal percussion and colorful ambiance. It’s just one track from the LP, something we’ll take a closer look at late this week (hint hint). As always there’s a few more videos where these came from – see them right now on our YouTube channel.
