It’s been a long strange trip for metalloid cult Canadian band Simply Saucer who after forty years of cryogenic sleep, have emerged with some fresh music courtesy of a new released 7” via Label Obscura. Hot off the heels of In The Red’s recently released definitive reissue of the band’s 1970’s recordings, Cyborgs Revisited; group leader, Edgar Breau leads a newly reformed incarnation of the band featuring original Saucer bassist Kevin Christoff alongside a crack team of new recruits through two new tunes.

The singles collection.
Omni – Sunset Preacher 7″
Chunklet Industries is not paying us to cover their records. They’re just on fire, as we’ve covered 2 of their 3 latest singles from April 2018 alone. The latest is from Atlanta garage-pop knee jerkers OMNI and it’s their second single for the label since 2017. It’s a fantastic snapshot of their body of work until now, which also includes two excellent albums on Trouble In Mind Records.
Slumb Party – s/t EP
German DIY punk label Erste Theke Tontraeger have touted some excellent bands over the years – Warm Bodies, Woodboot, Pretty Hurts, Lumpy & the Dumpers, Vanna Inget, The Gotobeds… As you can see they scour the world in order to scour your brains. Yet it’s hard to believe that they haven’t gone with a UK act…until now.
Piss Factory / Hearts and Rockets – Split 7″
It’s so good that SD is back, isn’t it? Ah we have missed it…To open up my bank account, I will kick off with the first split release from Australian label Psychic Hysteria. The 7″ features two short, sharp blasts of punk madness from beautifully damaged trio PISS FACTORY (named after the seminal Patti Smith song I assume) and bratwave duo HEARTS & ROCKETS (FKA Heat Wave; changed after one of those ugly cease and desist letters clattered through their letterbox recently. Why can’t we all get along? Ah well…)

Nag / Lip – Split 7″
Sarah Mason, who used to run the Pelican Pow Wow label in New Orleans, is now the mind behind Space Taker Sounds. This new split 7″ is one of her latest projects for the young label, putting two trashy, like-minded garage punk bands on what is still the best sized wax platter on the planet.
Honey Radar – Psychic Cruise 7″ EP
Jason Henn has been churning out weird pop fuzz on singles, full-length albums and cassette tapes as HONEY RADAR since as early as what, 2008? The year is probably up for debate, but it makes no difference and there’s no end in sight anyway, being that Henn just dropped a brand new 7″ EP via Chunklet Industries called Psychic Cruise. Midnite Snaxxx – Greedy Little Thing 7″
While I slacked off for two years and stopped blogging, Gabriele over at Goodbye Boozy Records – the premier outlet for garage punk records out of Italy – continued to churn out records at an alarming clip (sometimes with 4 or 5 new records at a time). Their latest set of 7″ singles is now available for preorder, one of which is the latest from Oakland, California punks MIDNITE SNAXXX. Continue reading “Midnite Snaxxx – Greedy Little Thing 7″”
Straight Arrows – Out & Down 7″
Sydney, Australia’s coolest group of guitar slingers dropped a new 7″ on Spacecase Records for 2018. Two new guitar-driven garage bangers fill the grooves on this single, combining for nearly 5 minutes of pure, unadulterated rock and roll.
Navy Gangs – s/t 7″ EP
NAVY GANGS is a four (maybe three?) piece garage band based somewhere in Brooklyn, NY. Modern Sky Entertainment dropped their debut 7″ EP late in 2016. It’s chock full of invigorating guitar licks, slathered carefully over a generally greasy complexion that will quickly burn out the motor on your turntable from repeated record flipping.
Sheer Mag – s/t 7″
Better late than never. SHEER MAG (short for ‘Sheer Magnitude’) dropped their debut self-titled 7″ toward the end of 2014 on Wilsuns Recording Company. They’re following it up with a second 7″ on Katorga Works/ Wilsuns this coming March. Continue reading “Sheer Mag – s/t 7″”
