SOLD is a new Philadelphia based post-punk trio led by Ted Quann (guitar and vocals), Scott Signorino (bass), Jon Murphy (drums) and Steve-O (organs and synths). “Additional guitar” is credited to Chris Sigda, who, along with Quann, made up a good half of the Likers Men of Honor cassette from 2014. This new demo EP from SOLD is a different beast entirely, concocting a brand of snarling and angular basement-bred scuzz that hits hard.

Leroy Francis – S.O.R.E. EP
S.O.R.E. is our first true encounter with LEROY FRANCIS, a multi-instrumentalist and known insomniac originally from Sydney, Australia. Considering those facts, the story goes that Francis has spent countless sleepless nights, resulting in a rather large library of self-made tape recordings at home from his bedroom. This new EP includes 6 tracks from those bleary-eyed, wee-morning-hour sessions, and you certainly get that sense while listening.
Cool Sounds – Gristle EP
With their latest EP Gristle, Melbourne’s COOL SOUNDS have crafted a fine collection of bittersweet indie pop. It was cobbled together by group leader Dainis Lacey following the sessions for the band’s upcoming second album. Gristle boasts a sound as instantly familiar and warm as a worn vinyl copy of any of Todd Rundgren’s early records or those well-loved d.i.y. vinyl seven inches from the 90’s that you keep close. The EP also marks a departure from the group’s more 80’s-inspired debut and finds them leaning further into singer/songwriter territory with even a few folk and country inspired moves lurking around the corners. Slumb Party – s/t EP
German DIY punk label Erste Theke Tontraeger have touted some excellent bands over the years – Warm Bodies, Woodboot, Pretty Hurts, Lumpy & the Dumpers, Vanna Inget, The Gotobeds… As you can see they scour the world in order to scour your brains. Yet it’s hard to believe that they haven’t gone with a UK act…until now.
Honey Radar – Psychic Cruise 7″ EP
Jason Henn has been churning out weird pop fuzz on singles, full-length albums and cassette tapes as HONEY RADAR since as early as what, 2008? The year is probably up for debate, but it makes no difference and there’s no end in sight anyway, being that Henn just dropped a brand new 7″ EP via Chunklet Industries called Psychic Cruise. In Spirit – Birds of the Air EP
IN SPIRIT is a three piece band hailing from Bloomfield in northern New Jersey. Led by James O’shea, the trio delivers an angular and scrappy blend of open-ended punk on their newly self-released (and free!) EP titled Birds of the Air.
Melting Palms – s/t EP
All aboard! MELTING PALMS decidedly take us as a guest on their cosmos-bound space craft from Hamburg. Their new self titled cassette tape is a 22-minute voyage through their little corner of the universe. It’s released by the good folks in Hamburg, Germany at La Pochette Surprise Records in a short run of just 100 copies.
The Limiñanas – Istanbul Is Sleepy 12″
Istanbul Is Sleepy dropped at the tail end of 2017 featuring a few songs that would later end up on Shadow People, THE LIMIÑANAS fifth studio album. Both released by Because Music in France, the two albums are a fun and uplifting batch of ye-ye psych-pop nuggets that only The Limiñanas could pull off.
Navy Gangs – s/t 7″ EP
NAVY GANGS is a four (maybe three?) piece garage band based somewhere in Brooklyn, NY. Modern Sky Entertainment dropped their debut 7″ EP late in 2016. It’s chock full of invigorating guitar licks, slathered carefully over a generally greasy complexion that will quickly burn out the motor on your turntable from repeated record flipping.
Sheer Mag – Fan the Flames 7″ EP
Philadelphia’s premier garage sensation SHEER MAG returns with their second 7″ for Wilsuns Recording Company, a split release with Katorga Works. Fan the Flames leaves us with four more tracks of their striped down, guitar-driven rock.
