Keep Shelly in Athens – Hauntin’ Me 7″

Hailing all the way from Greece is KEEP SHELLY IN ATHENS. This is their first 7″ on Transparent Records, which came fresh off the heels of their debut 12″ EP on Forest Family. Now they have another EP in the works due out this Fall.

Following up the excellent “In Love With Dusk” EP, Keep Shelly in Athens released this slab of 7″ wax to eager listeners, both of which sold out faster than you might expect. However after listening, that’s not such a surprise anymore. On their 7″, big, lush and nearly orchestral qualities envelope you in their hazy bubble of chilly, nautical paradise. As you’re submerged underwater, you can see out to the other side and things don’t look nearly as enticing as they do now. Needless to say, this is an endlessly captivating sound that is simply refreshing and easy to lounge to and even easier to totally disconnect yourself from the rest of reality as you drift away into the bliss. This is exactly the kind of sound you would expect to have such a power, stemming from swirling textures and ethereal female vocals that are as airy as they are chilling.

B-side “Song to Cheer You Up” features even more lofty, delicate qualities with it’s shimmering electronics and moody guitar licks scattered throughout. There’s definitely a classy edge to a song like this with it’s iced over complexion, which sounds cold to the touch as it complements the organized rhythm. You can’t help but pick up on the wintry vibes that this track produces, all the way down to the final glistening synth wave that so carefully treads between bliss and mystery.
