Melbourne, Australian garage-punks CHINESE BURNS offer up their third 7″ to date, this time from the Windian Records label in an edition of 500.
The last time anybody heard from these relentless rockers was in 2010 with their 7″ on Leather Bar. It looks as if this new single starts right where they left off, bringing us the rage on a silver platter. “Calculator” introduces us with a chilling guitar shrill, followed by murky, sludgy bass lines that sit heavily underneath the sharp and shredded guitars. Lead singer (what’s his name?) wails with a bloodthirsty fury right before a metallic guitar solo, showing just how dark and twisted this stuff can really get.
Flipping to the B-side, “Kiss Fist” gives us a much better snapshot of where these guys stand. Breakneck speeds mix with their manic attitude which only results in a complete black hole of destruction. With endless guitar freak-outs rollicking the very ground you stand on, a song like this shows off their unrelenting fervor without missing a beat. “Steal Your Prayers” comes in at just the right time to blow your face off once again. You’re welcomed by stomping percussion in this striped down, guitar driver rager, where tin-can blasts of high voltage power chords beat your ears mercilessly. It all fits excellently with the chanted “bam-bam-bam” vocals, culminating into a ridiculous metallic wave of rackety guitar jangle to bring it all home.
