SD Guestmix on Tropical Daze!

Hey again. I would like to divert your attention to the Tropical Daze blog today. Not too long ago they requested a Guestmix of all the best music that has been featured here on the Styrofoam Drone, and I graciously obliged. Putting together the playlist wasn’t exactly easy either, but it all came together quite nicely with 14 tracks from 14 different bands that have all been featured here on the Drone. Head on over to Tropical Daze right now, where you can download the entire mix and get a feel for what we love most here at the Styrofoam Drone. Most of the tracks have been featured pretty recently, as well as some that came from a few months back. Also – I have quite an exciting announcement for all you guys coming very soon, so please stick around for that. I think yr gonna like it. New Tumblr and Twitter Accounts!

Hello. No new music today, but I’ll be back on track with that for tomorrow. I’ll be stocking up on some new stuff today for the upcoming week instead. In the meantime, you guys should check out and follow my two new accounts: Twitter and Tumblr.

The idea here is simple. I made this Tumblr account for more short and straight-to-the-point posts so you can always get a quick idea of what’s going on here at the Drone. If you want to get on an even more personal level, I’ve made my own Twitter account as well. I won’t necessarily always be talking about music on this new Twitter account, but you should definitely stop on by sometimes for a word or two from myself. I’ll tweet about stuff like what records I just bought, any new shows coming up, or about the new Nike releases coming out…pretty much anything. So get followin’, and be sure to come back for more tomorrow. You might be able to figure out what that’s gonna be too.

Titus on TV!

Here’s some exciting news: Everybody’s favorite punk rockers TITUS ANDRONICUS from none other than Glen Rock, New Jersey will appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this evening for “three and half glorious minutes”. The show airs on the NBC network, which is channel 4, and the show starts promptly at 12:30am. I’m not sure what else you guys have going on tonight, but I suggest you clear off your schedule to witness the live mayhem that is Titus Andronicus on national television. I wonder what song they’re going to play? I guess we’ll find out soon enough…

In other news, Titus Andronicus and their recent tour buddies Free Energy are preparing a brand new split 7″ for us, and it’s going to be available on their forthcoming tour. You can check the dates of that tour on TA’s Myspace. The 7″ will feature two cover songs from each band, with Titus Andronicus taking on “Anxiety Block” by the Television Personalities and Free Energy covering “I’m Going Down” by Bruce Springsteen. Definitely going to make sure I pick that one up when both bands come to Philly on September 23rd (which I still need a ticket for). More details on that 7″ right here.

New Family Trees Video – No One Will Ever Know

Hey guys. About two weeks ago we made a post here for the release of “Dream Talkin”, the debut 7″ from the brand new band FAMILY TREES. They’ve successfully released their 7″ to the world, and now they’re going a step further by releasing a brand new music video for the B-side song “No One Will Ever Know”. It’s a lazy sounding strung out beach jam, and the hazy/grainy video quality really works wonders for their sound.

If you like the music, you should consider buying the 7″. Hey, check this out! They just set this video free yesterday along with an announcement for even more Titus Andronicus shows this summer! They’ve been touring since the Monitor came out – that’s ridiculous! But they’re just trying to give people what they love – more Titus Andronicus!

Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm…Join the fun!!?

Hey, what’s up? I didn’t really have anything to post today, so instead of something new today I’m going to suggest that you join all of our groups and follow us on our Twitter page! Record Store Day 2010!!!

Now, as many of you may already know, today is the 3rd annual Record Store Day. Record labels around the world release new, limited edition records that you can’t find anywhere else, besides on Record Store Day…and probably eBay. So if you got up early enough this morning, why not head on over to your local music store and purchase a few things? If you’re interested, you can check out a comprehensive list of everything they’re releasing, which includes the new Hold Steady album “Heaven is Whenever” that’s not supposed to drop until May 4th. So be sure to get up this morning, and see what your local record store has to offer!

And I want to thank every single person who came to the Styrofoam Drone in the past 24 hours, because yesterday was the most traffic the Styrofoam Drone has seen since it’s birth into the blogosphere on December 17th, 2009. Most of that is due to our shout out on Pitchfork on Friday afternoon, where they featured the video from the Titus Andronicus show the other night where they covered Weezers “Undone – The Sweater Song”. Also, thanks for the love from the Alternative blog, Weallwantsomeone.org and Daybowbow.net.

None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for the actions of my good pal Joe either, so once again Joe, I thank you. And I thank all of you viewers for visiting and nearly giving me a heart attack! Except that Mike Hunt asshole guy…

Hey people, how’s it going? Hopefully pretty good, but it could be better.

Well, the answer is simple. Not enough people have joined our group on Last.fm! The idea of the group is to get the readers from this blog to meet and discuss all in one place. It could be extremely useful for all of us. Not only could you talk to other people reading here on the blog, but you can propose new ideas for the blog, you can propose what albums should be posted up next, or you could even recommend an upcoming show in Philadelphia that you want covered.
