LES RIVALS hail from Paris. They just dropped a brand new 7″ titled Sugar Babies on Mauvaise Foi Records, a fresh new label based out of France. This single marks the debut release for the label.
This new 7″ delivers us two initial tracks from Les Rivals with stunning, clean-cut intensity – there’s no added noise or extra fuzz crowding these grooves. Things open up with a shock in “Sugar Babies”, kicking off with a wave of warbled garage-psych guitars to immediately set a dense, rollicking tone. Lead singer Matthew Lister leads the way through a balanced guitar and synth attack, wrapping up the track with an unforgettable la-la vocal melody that will have you singing along with joy. It fills the air with remarkable positivity as we progress perfectly toward this satisfying ending. B-side “Fruitcake” comes along with the colorful sparkle of synths, complementing each punchy guitar hook after another. It’s driven by a tight, stomping beat, shimmering tambourines and groovy bass throbs that create an invigorating rhythm over Lister’s witty vocal hooks.
The band is currently in the process of recording their first studio album in Paris, so we’ll have to wait patiently until we hear some more. In the meantime, be sure to check out these songs below.
