Song of the Day #3

Coming from the Bathetic Records imprint towards the end of the month is a brand new 7″ from HIGH WOLF. By now most of you probably know the story of this French-born, seemingly nomadic psychedelic mastermind, and this is his latest work to date. “Free Your Energy Field” is a looping psychedelic mess that sounds both equally ritualistic and ethnic, and is clearly heavy on the repetition. It’s not a surprise if you get lost in the buzzing drone and the relentless swirling of so many sounds – the surprising part would be if you were actually able to make sense of it all. If you’re looking for something obscure yet minimal that also seems strikingly complex, look no further.

Brother Gruesome – Morphine Makes You Comfortable 7″

Today we’ve got the second official release from dark-rockers BROTHER GRUESOME, and they’ve broadened their sound a bit for this single. Spacemen 3 – Walkin’ with Jesus 12″

Dating back to 1986, Spacemen 3 released their very first single on Glass Records. Twenty-five years later, Fire Records does these space-rock godheads a huge (and completely necessary) solid by repressing what appears to be a great deal of their discography. Continue reading “Spacemen 3 – Walkin’ with Jesus 12″”

Heavy Times – Dead

It’s a damn shame we weren’t aware of this record sooner, because in all seriousness, it probably would have been way high up on our top 25 list at the end of 2010. But anyhow, with this release, HEAVY TIMES continue to serve up their unpredictable take on punk music, but things are a little different this time around. Continue reading “Heavy Times – Dead”

Nothing – Last Day in Bouville

Forming right within the city limits of Philadelphia comes NOTHING. They’re a self-described “shoegaze” band with their first recorded single now under their belt. These guys opened up for Creepoid the other night, and it was a surprising and refreshing performance. Continue reading “Nothing – Last Day in Bouville”

Voyageurs – Nude Vegas

Coming out just before the new year was VOYAGEURS second official set of songs “Nude Vegas”. The band had added a new keyboard player to their lineup, and hence they decided to record their songs once more with their new keyboardist. Everything you hear was recorded in a live setting somewhere in the town of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Continue reading “Voyageurs – Nude Vegas”
