Today we’ve got the second official release from dark-rockers BROTHER GRUESOME, and they’ve broadened their sound a bit for this single. Instead of remaining quiet and hidden in the shadows, they went a bit further and decided to kick up the intensity. This is a much-welcomed decision.
Two new tracks come with their brand new 7″, from the Nice People label out of Oklahoma. Upon first listening, the airy and mysterious elements of the intro brought a band like Dunes to mind, until, of course, a huge build up like the one in “Needles” presents itself. So just as quickly as you come up with that thought, you can dismiss it. But in “Needles” they seem to go from careful and passive to a totally unexpected and monstrous freakout. The electrified guitars create a sweltering atmosphere, and at that point you’ll be attempting to make sense of all the relentless madness. In the A-side “Tubes”, part of that quiet approach is still intact, but definitely not in the grand scheme of things. The brooding guitars sound just as gruesome as their name would suggest, being very sludgy and moody. Hear with your own two ears right below, and head on over to the Nice People website and grab your very own Brother Gruesome 7″.
