After dropping one of our favorite records of 2012 on Art Fag Recordings, PLATEAUS have been silent for much of 2013. Mt. St. Mtn. just changed that by releasing this 10″ EP from the band consisting of three new songs, coming on gorgeous translucent-splatter vinyl limited to 500 pieces.
To go along with their new record, the band also just went on a mini-tour through California. Much like their self-titled LP on Art Fag last year, they deliver these clean-cut pop-punk nuggets with the utmost tightness. “Wasting Time” unfolds with a buzz, breaking the song wide open with warbled guitar washes and a steady rhythm section. Lead singer Kevin Gist howls over the fuzzy bass line, leading us straight into a noisy blast of crashing cymbals and squealing guitars. In the end the track falls somewhere toward punk-inflected pop with a weave of colorfully discordant psych mixed in. Listen to the lead-off track below, then snag that awesome-looking record from the good folks at Mt. St. Mtn – the other two tracks deserve your ears attention!
