Heavy Times – I’m Single 7″

We haven’t heard from the HEAVY TIMES crew much through 2012 but lately it seems that’s about to change. With a small batch of new singles from labels like Windian and Hozac, HEAVY TIMES are sweeping through in another wave.

I’m Single is their latest 7″ on the Hozac imprint, forcing us to believe these Chicago punks are still cooking up the sickest guitar licks in the game. The three new songs on I’m Single offer up that familiar, rollicking energy channeled through catchy (and equally noisy) guitars, crushing rhythms and a certain level of sensibility that makes us think by now, these guy knew exactly how they wanted this stuff to sound. It’s not to say they’re at the height of their powers anymore, but more to say that these guys have turned the corner into the awesomely consistent band we were all kind of hoping for. A closing track like “Bath Salts” quickly supports that claim, combining a little bit of everything from this 7″ and simultaneously leaving us with what just might be their best guitar hook yet (if that’s possible). Throw it in with cooing background vocals and more sharp guitars and you’ve got yourself another HT instant classic.

Listen to “Unsolved Mysteries” and “Bath Salts” from the 7″ right below. Then be sure to grab this one from the Hozac store – it’ll be gone before you know it.
