If you remember the SHARP ENDS 7″ we covered a short bit ago, then it shouldn’t be surprising we’re back here with another. Coming from the Mammoth Cave label in 2009, this was one of three singles from Sharp Ends that year. Continue reading “Sharp Ends – Crack Trap 7″”

Sharp Ends – Broadview Pressure Test 7″
For those of you who never had the chance to cop this back in 2009, today is your lucky day. Mammoth Cave so appropriately reissued the very first SHARP ENDS 7″, perhaps being the most consistent 7″ we’ve covered here since day one. Continue reading “Sharp Ends – Broadview Pressure Test 7″”
Moon Women – Light Moves Slowly 7″
Philadelphia’s own MOON WOMEN have been quite active these days, most recently releasing this debut 7″ we have here today. Last we heard was a live EP recorded at WXPN studios here in Philly, so let’s see what they’ve got for us this time around. Continue reading “Moon Women – Light Moves Slowly 7″”
Song of the Day #12
At first SILVER SHAMPOO was an unfamiliar name. However, once you throw on their record and give it a couple spins, the stuff really starts to sink in. That seems to be the case with all the countless bands who dwell in the Denton, TX area, which is exactly where these striped-down pop-punkers hail from. You probably didn’t need us to tell you that, but it should all become clear after hearing this cut from the album below, called “On Wheels.” It’s overflowing with wonky bass lines, jagged guitars and an innocent adolescent spirit bursting with energy, and acts as a nice snapshot of what the rest of the album holds.

Real Numbers – Tear it in Two 7″
After checking out this brand new 7″ from REAL NUMBERS, I was immediately upset it took me this long to come across them. Thanks to Florida’s Dying we have this new 7″, as well as other past releases from the likes of Bachelor and Three Dimensional Records. Continue reading “Real Numbers – Tear it in Two 7″”
Xray Eyeballs – Crystal 7″
Here’s the last 7″ from the most recent batch of goods from the Hozac folk. It’s the XRAY EYEBALLS, whose only other recordings came from Night People and Party Store on cassette tapes. That certainly won’t be all though, because they have a full length due out soon enough via Kanine Records. Continue reading “Xray Eyeballs – Crystal 7″”
Song of the Day #5
For all those in Austin at SXSW, this is for you. Friday marks the Hozac Records showcase at Beerland, which pretty much lasts all day long. Band after band takes the stage, drumming up their weird and mutated takes on garage, psychedelic, punk, and noise rock and then some, including Chicago’s very own HEAVY TIMES. Coming from Hozac later this year is a brand new full length from Heavy Times, and we couldn’t be more psyched.
This song below comes from one of their earlier cassette tapes from Dinosaur Club Records, which you can download with great ease by following the link below. Good luck finding this one to buy anywhere, because Dinosaur Club is non-existent at this point except for on Myspace. Get lost in the fuzzy shredded chord strum of “Night Swim”, and if you’re around town head over to Beerland right about…now! The show started at 1 and continues on till 6 before they move it all over to Cheer Up Charlies. Not sure about you, but if I were in Austin right now this is where you would find me.

Song of the Day #2
So in case you missed it yesterday, we’re doing this thing on the blog now called “Song of the Day”. To keep it simple, we pick a song from an album somewhere and put it here for your previewing pleasure – then it’s up to you to go and buy the album (or download, or whatever) to hear the rest on your own time. So for our second entry, we’re going to stick to the local scene and hit you up with something from CANNONS.
These Philly bros just finished recording their brand new three song demo in Brooklyn recently, and now they’re trying to share their spastic punk rock with the rest of the world. Their music refuses to follow any preformed pattern, which means there’s something unexpected around every turn in their music. Whether it’s the sharp, angular guitars or just the way these guys never seem to settle down, there’s definitely something awesome brewing here. By the time May rolls around, we should be hearing from CANNONS again in the form of a new EP, so let’s keep our fingers crossed. AND – if you’re in Philly and want something to do on Friday night, go check out CANNONS at JR’s Bar.

Teenage Panzerkorps – Thee Incantations of Bunker Wolf 7″
Everybody’s favorite half-German, half-American band TEENAGE PANZERKORPS (DER TPK) are back once again, this time with a brand new 7″ from Release the Bats. Don’t get your hopes up too soon though, because the obscure pressing of 116 copies is already sold the-fuck out.
