For NEW CANDYS out of Venice, Italy, Bleeding Magenta marks their third full length album since their debut in 2012. Their latest record was first released by Fuzz Club in London in October of 2017. The band is coming to the states for a tour in late April and Little Cloud Records in Portland, Oregon is proudly releasing the US version of the LP on pretty opaque magenta vinyl.
Mono-Tone Records in France has seemingly done the impossible and rounded up a proper full-length collection documenting Memphis’ legendary all-female punk quartet, THE KLITZ, with Rocking the Memphis Underground 1978-1980. Formed sometime around 1978, the band was initially comprised of Gail Elise Clifton (vocals), Lesa Aldridge (guitar), Marcia Clifton (drums), and Amy Gassner, who was later recruited to play bass.
Istanbul Is Sleepy dropped at the tail end of 2017 featuring a few songs that would later end up on Shadow People, THE LIMIÑANAS fifth studio album. Both released by Because Music in France, the two albums are a fun and uplifting batch of ye-ye psych-pop nuggets that only The Limiñanas could pull off.
Our friends from Funny / Not Funny Records in Harrisonburg, VA dropped us their latest cassette release. DROOPIES is a trio of friends who are spread out between Philadelphia, PA and Richmond, VA. Their new 15-song cassette comes jam-packed with palpable layers of grit, fuzz and whatever other variation of filth your ears detect within.
The spontaneous regeneration of THE PREFAB MESSIAHS continues to be one of the best left field surprises of the past few years. For those in need of a history lesson, the group started their life back in the early 1980’s as a band of young, scrappy, left field, DIY, post-punk, garage-psych-pop provocateurs, and a part of the Wormtown (Worcester, MA) underground scene. It was there they spent time kicking around with private press legend Bobb Trimble, playing local gigs warming up for bands like Mission of Burma, and recording a ton of spiky, retro-delic rockers.
Formed in early 2014 in Madison, Wisconsin, DUMB VISION now has two separate cassette tapes under their belt. A Total Commitment To Evil was released in late 2017 on the bands own Rare Plant label. Their two tapes are only the beginning of bigger things to come, as the band has both a 7″ and a full-length album planned for later down the road in 2018.
Since 2011, Superior Viaduct in San Francisco has put together quite an eclectic roster of artists. That trend continues on their sub-label W.25TH with EXEK and their brand new brain-burner of an album, Ahead of Two Thoughts. Located in Melbourne, Australia, the 5-piece group of disgruntled post-punkers come off more as a band of doctors experimenting with a brand new (musical) life form.
Sydney, Australia’s coolest group of guitar slingers dropped a new 7″ on Spacecase Records for 2018. Two new guitar-driven garage bangers fill the grooves on this single, combining for nearly 5 minutes of pure, unadulterated rock and roll.
In a better, or at least fairer world, the artist known as BROTHER JT would be a big star instead of a cult figure revered by record geeks like myself, and musician types. Who knows, in some sideways universe perhaps he is, but it’s certainly not in this one. After getting his start in the 1980’s with garage legends The Original Sins, JT was rechristened Brother JT by legendary rock scribe Byron Coley. From there, he set off on his own long, strange path.
