Jason Henn has been churning out weird pop fuzz on singles, full-length albums and cassette tapes as HONEY RADAR since as early as what, 2008? The year is probably up for debate, but it makes no difference and there’s no end in sight anyway, being that Henn just dropped a brand new 7″ EP via Chunklet Industries called Psychic Cruise. MEN I TUST was sent here as a personal recommendation. The end result was a week’s worth of listening to any other music totally lost (it could happen to you too), whilst discovering their large handful of potent, one-off singles, in addition to their self-titled full length LP released in 2017. Continue reading “Song of the Day #57: Men I Trust – “Show Me How””
With the quick count of a steel drum, The Official Body takes off, putting you in the passenger seat of wild, 31-minute ride through the nooks and crannies of the minds of SHOPPING. Falling somewhere between angular pop, post-punk and danceable alternative, their third album is a staggering accomplishment that does not let its guard down for a single moment. Continue reading “Shopping – The Official Body”
XYZ is the trans-Atlantic collaboration between American Ian Svenonius and Frenchman Memphis Electronic. You might recognize Mr. Svenonius’ effort to free Arthur Lee with his former group, the Make-Up, or his more recent work with Chain & the Gang or Escape-ism, the same way you might recall Mr. Electronic’s time with NON!, the Dum Dum Boys or Die Idiots. Continue reading “XYZ – Artificial Flavoring”
IN SPIRIT is a three piece band hailing from Bloomfield in northern New Jersey. Led by James O’shea, the trio delivers an angular and scrappy blend of open-ended punk on their newly self-released (and free!) EP titled Birds of the Air.
Thoineau Palis, or TH DA FREAK, is the man behind every element heard in the following grooves. This project is the outlet for his reverb-rigged pop tunes, proudly released by the folks at Howlin’ Banana Records in Saint-Denis, France. The Hood marks the second full-length album from Palis, who was taken under the wings of Howlin’ Banana back in the Spring of 2017. Since, the man has churned out a pair of EPs and his debut LP in just short of a years time.
There’s that famous Eno quote that everyone who bought a copy of the first Velvet Underground record went out and started a band. If that’s the case, then SIMPLY SAUCER is one of the best proof positive examples of that theory. Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario and forming in 1973, these early adapters laid down a collection of demos and live recordings that today makes record geeks exasperated and covered in flop sweat.
All aboard! MELTING PALMS decidedly take us as a guest on their cosmos-bound space craft from Hamburg. Their new self titled cassette tape is a 22-minute voyage through their little corner of the universe. It’s released by the good folks in Hamburg, Germany at La Pochette Surprise Records in a short run of just 100 copies.
Longwave is the sophomore album from the Detroit, MI quartet BONNY DOON. Woodsist Records in New York is a fitting home for the record, which comes hot off the heels of their eponymous debut from 2017 on Salinas Records. It’s an impressive collection of material, leaving us just over 40 minutes of summertime-ready tunes, perfect for your next (psychedelic) road trip. Continue reading “Bonny Doon – Longwave”
While I slacked off for two years and stopped blogging, Gabriele over at Goodbye Boozy Records – the premier outlet for garage punk records out of Italy – continued to churn out records at an alarming clip (sometimes with 4 or 5 new records at a time). Their latest set of 7″ singles is now available for preorder, one of which is the latest from Oakland, California punks MIDNITE SNAXXX. Continue reading “Midnite Snaxxx – Greedy Little Thing 7″”
