Portland-based SUMMER CANNIBALS just dropped their first digital EP on their own New Moss Records imprint. It picks up the pace from their 2013 debut, showing off four new tracks of muscular grunge rock.
The EP was first released in a short edition of 100 hand-numbered cassettes, including packaging made by the band that quickly sold out. Opening track “Make You Better” comes spearheaded by Jessica Boudreaux’s bold howl, leading an anthemic chorus over a wave of buzzing guitars. These guitars sit heavy, like losing the air from your chest after a solid punch. “Not Your Turn” becomes a cassette highlight, beginning with heavyweight guitars that trail off into aggressively smoldering haze. They pick up momentum with a wonky, post-punk inflected build up, rung in by Boudreaux’s smooth crooning. Hear this stuff right below, then pick up their debut LP while it’s still available – the first 100 copies come on red, gold and black limited edition vinyl. Get one!
