After an earlier split 7″ last year, we are thrilled to reintroduce THE CEILING STARES. Their epic new single “Volcano” just dropped on the Velocity of Sound label out of Pittsburgh.
After their lone song on their split 7″ last year with the Super Vacations, we’ve been patiently anticipating the day we would get to hear more from Pittsburgh psych rockers the Ceiling Stares. That day comes today with their brand new “Volcano” 7″ on Velocity of Sound Records, containing two new unheard tracks that go above and beyond expectations.
“The Day the Volcano Screamed Death” is a grandiose track in its own right, spanning past the five minute mark with plenty to be excited about. The track begins with the troubling bass guitar and mysteriously glimmering keyboards, eventually guiding us into the rest of the track. Here we’re met by lead singer Steve Patchan, whose sharp vocals are broadened beautifully by soulful and powerful female back ups. This begins to set the tone for the rest of the track, as once their finished the first verse we’re in for quite a ride.
The song transitions into the instrumental midsection, where searing solos and gigantic guitar chords swallow us whole in one enormous bite – the sort of instrumental onslaught that will leave you beside yourself while the band takes you on an epic listening adventure. Ranging from punishing and bluesy solos to threatening and metallic guitar washes and everything in-between, this is surely an epic arrangement to say the least. As the ending draws near, you can again feel the powerful and destructive nature that this song creates, resulting in an undeniably memorable track that requires many spins before satisfaction. Now listen to these two tracks below and see what the Ceiling Stares are truly all about.
