Hailing from Orange County, California is COSMONAUTS. These rowdy bros have just released their self-titled album on vinyl for the first time thanks to Permanent Records – beforehand you could only find it on cassette via Burger Records. Now let’s get to it. Continue reading “Cosmonauts – Cosmonauts”

Song of the Day #7
Mississippi punk duo BASS DRUM OF DEATH have their debut full length hitting the shelves April 12th from Fat Possum and Inflated Records, collectively.
These guys come from the Cats Purring Collective just like Dead Gaze, which just goes to show all the talent that’s constantly brewing down there. Together John and Colin recorded this album in a series of basements, and upon listening this immediately becomes obvious. Their buzzy sound is buried in reverb and as frantic and energetic as can be, but at the same time dynamic because each track of the album reveals something new, but it’s not like this sound is groundbreaking by any means – they’re just good at it. They take the usual destructive approach to garage-punk, singing about heathenish things like trying to score with religious girls. Awesome? Certainly. Check out the opening track “Nerve Jamming” now.

How does underground Chilean psych-rock sound to you? If you don’t have to think twice then please continue reading. We’ve definitely been seeing a bunch of this stuff lately (see Sacred Bones) and LA HELL GANG are right there in the forefront mix. They released a full length album from Blow Your Mind Records in September, and it’s overflowing with eyebrow singeing garage-psych that’s bound to leave you drooling with your jaw on the floor, probably because you’re too high to comprehend it all. Listed on their Myspace, some of their influences are certainly not a surprise in the least bit. In fact, names like J. Spaceman, “Stones” and “Jimi” should only intrigue you to listen that much more, so please do so with this cut from the album below.

Song of the Day #4
Evil Weevil Records is a label from Philadelphia that (sadly) more or less just showed up on my radar. Only after picking up their Big Eyes 7″ in a nearby record store (coming soon) and learning through Noah of DOOMSTAR! that this project even existed, you can now say that I am aware.
One of the first things that caught my eye was that strangely colorful cover art of the new COUSIN BRIAN 7″ (which just goes to show that a cover art is crucial). Their new 7″ is four tracks long of dangerously energetic and twisted garage punk, as there’s definitely a noticeable element of weirdness in their sound. But just because they’re a bit eccentric doesn’t mean they don’t know what they’re doing, because clearly that’s not the case. Between the infectious sing-along melodies of “It’s On Me” or the blazing guitar riffage of “Do Stay Over”, Cousin Brian easily fit in here, no questions asked. I think you’ll agree. Follow the link below for a free download of the full 7″, but just make sure to say thanks. I’ve been told these guys were quite the entertaining bunch when it comes to a live show, so don’t miss out if you get the chance.

Women in Prison – Strange Waves 7″
Add another band to the list that’s awesome and comes from Texas (which is where we should all be at some point this week). WOMEN IN PRISON just released their debut 7″ from Hozac Records, and it’s a face-beating kick in the ass of raging punk that will throw you down and continue to kick you while you’re helplessly on the ground. Continue reading “Women in Prison – Strange Waves 7″”
Colleen Green – Green One 7″
Coming from the Hardly Art imprint is the debut 7″ from COLLEEN GREEN. She creates catchy and blissful bedroom music somewhere out of Los Angeles, California. The music is self-described as “stoner pop”, and the more you begin to follow Miss Green, the more you’ll notice her obvious love for weed. Continue reading “Colleen Green – Green One 7″”

WAX IDOLS is the brainchild of Hether Fedewa, and this cassette is her first official release. Everybody’s favorite half-German, half-American band TEENAGE PANZERKORPS (DER TPK) are back once again, this time with a brand new 7″ from Release the Bats.
