Song of the Day #5

For all those in Austin at SXSW, this is for you. Friday marks the Hozac Records showcase at Beerland, which pretty much lasts all day long. Band after band takes the stage, drumming up their weird and mutated takes on garage, psychedelic, punk, and noise rock and then some, including Chicago’s very own HEAVY TIMES. Coming from Hozac later this year is a brand new full length from Heavy Times, and we couldn’t be more psyched.

This song below comes from one of their earlier cassette tapes from Dinosaur Club Records, which you can download with great ease by following the link below. Good luck finding this one to buy anywhere, because Dinosaur Club is non-existent at this point except for on Myspace. Get lost in the fuzzy shredded chord strum of “Night Swim”, and if you’re around town head over to Beerland right about…now! The show started at 1 and continues on till 6 before they move it all over to Cheer Up Charlies. Not sure about you, but if I were in Austin right now this is where you would find me.

Wax Idols – All Too Human Cassette

WAX IDOLS is the brainchild of Hether Fedewa, and this cassette is her first official release. Coming later down the road is a 7″ from Hozac Records, and although we still have some time until that hits the shelves, this little gem here requires a head start on your attention. Teenage Panzerkorps – Thee Incantations of Bunker Wolf 7″

Everybody’s favorite half-German, half-American band TEENAGE PANZERKORPS (DER TPK) are back once again, this time with a brand new 7″ from Release the Bats. Don’t get your hopes up too soon though, because the obscure pressing of 116 copies is already sold the-fuck out. Continue reading “Teenage Panzerkorps – Thee Incantations of Bunker Wolf 7″”

Heavy Times – Dead

It’s a damn shame we weren’t aware of this record sooner, because in all seriousness, it probably would have been way high up on our top 25 list at the end of 2010. But anyhow, with this release, HEAVY TIMES continue to serve up their unpredictable take on punk music, but things are a little different this time around. Continue reading “Heavy Times – Dead”

Wet Hair/ Peaking Lights – Bored Fortress Club 7″

Coming from the more obscure corners of the internet is this split 7″ between WET HAIR and PEAKING LIGHTS. It’s a highly appropriate release from the Not Not Fun catalog, and it’s part of their yearly Bored Fortress 7″ Club series. Continue reading “Wet Hair/ Peaking Lights – Bored Fortress Club 7″”

Various Artists – Faux Discx Split 7″

Coming from the Faux Discx label in Brighton is this split 7″ covering four bands. There’s a song a piece from WOMEN, FAIR OHS, COLD PUMAS and FRIENDO, respectively. There doesn’t seem to be any specific pattern they’re following with the song placement, so let’s take this unique line up for a spin. Continue reading “Various Artists – Faux Discx Split 7″”
