Hailing from Seattle, WIMPS just dropped a 4-song 7″ EP on Help Yourself Records. Party at the Wrong Time comes on cosmic, fluorescent lemon-lime colored vinyl, following up their 2013 album Repeat on 1234 Go! Records.
The band features former members of the Intelligence, Meth Teeth and the Butts, delivering a wonky power-pop/punk sound. Guy-girl vocal efforts lead the way in all four tracks, each loaded with springy guitar hooks and nasally bass. Their debut sounded quite similar to this new EP, except with maybe a little extra lo-fi crunch. This time around, things sound just a bit cleaner, evidenced immediately in anthemic opener “Secret Message.” Track three “Dog Pills” shows off their playful antics, mainly about taking dog pills and staying in the house. They sum it up with a heavy finale, weaving cooing vocals through a beam of shredded guitars. Hear it now along with three other fun and silly tracks right below!
