Indianapolis trio ANCIENT SLANG just dropped their new three track 7″ Fake Future on Gloryhole Records. It’s the first in their upcoming slew of singles, with more to follow in the coming months.
As the story goes, Ancient Slang headed into the studio to record songs for one 7″, but ended up coming out with enough material for three. That’s the good news. The bad news? There is none.
“Fake Future” opens with a blast, quickly slamming the pedal to the metal with some streamlined guitar madness for a blood-boiling introduction. We’re driven straight into a psyched-out, post-punk beating, characterized by tightly wound bass throbs, swift percussion and nasty guitar shreds. It makes for a sound that’s as destructive as it is dazzling, pushing further with a menacing wave of wigged-out noise that swallows the remainder of the song in a sweeping black hole. As if that weren’t enough, “Hissy Fits” opens with wonky bass lines against shimmering, metallic dissonance, paving the way for buzzy synths and clanking cymbal hits. It’s a frantic and evil sound that will drive you mad, intensified by disgusted screaming and a constant, uneasy wobble. “Modern Times” closes out the 7″ with some glinting guitar jangles, retaining the nasty, almost grungy vibes with its foreboding psychedelic undertones. We’re led through the oozing mess by shadowy, possessed vocals, putting the finishing cap on a stunningly cohesive 7″ you won’t want to miss.
It almost goes without saying, but we’re patiently awaiting whatever this trio decides to put out next. In the meantime you must listen to these wild songs right below – do it now!
