Sunburned Mind is the brand new 7″ from Hamilton, Ontario noise-punks MAGIC SHADOWS. They blend a sharp, noisy mixture of garage rock, punk and shoegaze for a head-splitting combo on their debut 7″.
Magic Shadows have been active since the late summer of 2010, releasing three cassette tapes, a music video and now this debut single to their names. As promised in their band description, they were born out of a “bubbling cesspool of cheap beer and lysergic acid” and let me tell you, the lysergic influences are most definitely present. There’s a dark, evil vibe that oozes from these gazey onslaughts, almost like you’re on an ever-descending trip into the depths of hell. “Sunburned Mind” makes this ultimately clear with its repetitive and foreboding nature, led by the fiery and sinister crunch of the guitar. Toward the end this eventually leads us into a metallic envelope of piercing noise, sealing up a wild track with totally varied influences. On the B-side, “Under the Stairs” keeps the evil daze flowing strong, coming out from a similar vein of “Sunburned Mind” with jangly percussion and punishing guitar shards.
You can hear both of these mesmerizing psych-outs right below, then be sure to go and grab a 7″ because there’s only 300!
