Today we are pleased to share with you the refreshing indie rock styles of Wilkes-Barre, PA foursome EWW YABOO, released by the tiny but prolific Summersteps Records in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Prior to this 7″ I never would have known about Eww Yaboo, which is actually a bit saddening because Wilkes-Barre is only a good two hours away from Philadelphia. Luckily that is not the case thanks to this 7″ from Summersteps Records. Beginning their new single is the propulsive track “Make it Fast,” which depicts a band who would rather blow your ears off and that’s okay with us. They plow through with organized and structured songs that nearly evoke some tropical pop qualities, where their calculated madness is put on display through both tracks – the crushing, wall-like frenzy of “Make it Fast” and the grungy and grinding closer “So Many of the Kids.”
The spastic guitar work that is put on display within “Make it Fast” provides an exhilarating listening experience if there ever was one, where manic drumming crashes on through without the slightest remorse while hitting every mark. I mentioned “tropical pop” qualities earlier which occur due to the sharp and angular guitar licks that are scattered throughout this demanding song, resulting in a track which has plenty of piercing surprises. That being said, the creative guitar playing styles that they’re experimenting with here are certainly working in their favor. You can hear the entire 7″ below and if that’s not enough, head to this Bandcamp page for a few extra tracks.
