Telephone Explosion and Jackshack Records have teamed up to bring us this monster of an EP from Toronto noise punks THE SOUPCANS. Their take on pop is sick and twisted, mangled garage tracks crusted in metallic noise. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: The Soupcans – Parasite Brain EP”

Friday’s Find: The Bad Doctors – Re-Animate EP
Our friends at FDH Records are preparing to release the debut album from Philly locals THE BAD DOCTORS, so they’re closing out the year with the new 4-track EP Re-Animate to whet our appetites for the full-length. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: The Bad Doctors – Re-Animate EP”
Friday’s Find: Party Bat – Real Drugs
The always-excellent Tic Tac Totally Records in Chicago brings us the second long-player from party-ready snot-punks PARTY BAT. Together these guys nail that timeless back-from-the-grave garage sound, capitalizing on all the points that made their earlier singles so memorable. These songs are led by a thin, sludgy guitar buzz and lead Bat’s rowdy croon, offering endlessly gruesome lyrical variations about drugs, zombies, eating brains and Budweiser and blood. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Party Bat – Real Drugs”
Friday’s Find: Ancient Sky – All Get Out
Wharf Cat Records in Greenpoint, NY just released the third album from seething psychedelic wizards ANCIENT SKY. A follow-up to their Castle 7″ from earlier this year, All Get Out is a tripped-out journey through over 40 minutes of cloudy, folk-informed space rock. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Ancient Sky – All Get Out”
Friday’s Find: Purling Hiss – Paisley Montage
PURLING HISS’ Paisley Montage was originally supposed to be a tour-only cassette tape in 2011. Unfortunately it never saw the light of day because the band left the whole box of brand new tapes on top of their tour van and drove off. The end result was a bunch of destroyed cassettes along the Schuylkill Expressway, ultimately leaving Philadelphia’s Richie Records to re-release the album on vinyl. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Purling Hiss – Paisley Montage”
Friday’s Find: Mind Spiders – Inhumanistic
Mark Ryan, the mind behind countless Denton, TX bands (among them the Marked Men and High Tension Wires) is back with the latest LP for his pop-punk project MIND SPIDERS. Inhumanistic is his third album in as many years for Dirtnap Records in Portland, and it’s a record that’s equal parts punk rock, synth pop and sci-fi. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Mind Spiders – Inhumanistic”
Friday’s Find: Wau Y Los Arrrghs!!! – Todo Roto
Thanks to our friends over at the wonderful Slovenly Records we have an absurd new album to share. WAU Y LOS ARRRGHS!!! based in Valencia, Spain, deliver their third LP Todo Roto after their riotous 2009 sophomore album ¡¡¡Viven!!!. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Wau Y Los Arrrghs!!! – Todo Roto”
Friday’s Find: Cuello – Mi Brazo Que Te Sobre
Discos Mascarpone is a brand new label operating out of Spain. They’re a self-described DIY label who just released the debut LP from Valencia-based quartet CUELLO. Mi Brazo Que Te Sobre was recorded live entirely at Sountess Studios by Pablo Peiró, a recording studio also based in Valencia that’s recorded plenty of the local bands. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Cuello – Mi Brazo Que Te Sobre”
Friday’s Find: Terry Malts – Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere
San Francisco’s fuzzed-up punks TERRY MALTS are back with their sophomore LP. Nearly two years after their debut, Killing Time, comes Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere from our friends at Slumberland Records. These songs are centered around a deliciously simple formula — it’s something the band likes to call “chainsaw pop.” Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Terry Malts – Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere”
Friday’s Find: Gap Dream – Chill Spot 7″
After a big 2012, Gabe Fulvimar is back as GAP DREAM with his second release on Burger Records. “Chill Spot” follows last year’s Ali Baba 7″ on Suicide Squeeze (he released an outstanding full-length on Burger before that), and it continues Fulvimar’s hazy take on psyched-out electronic pop. Continue reading “Friday’s Find: Gap Dream – Chill Spot 7″”
