Pairing both THE DEMON BEAT and ELEPHANT CHILD together on this 7″ was definitely a worthwhile decision. Coming from Funny/ Not Funny Records, this is a hard hitting single to say the least.
Believe it or not, this is truly a record of firsts – it’s both the debut vinyl release from Elephant Child and also the first release from the Demon Beat on the Funny/ Not Funny label. Also, both of these bands hail from the Virginia’s – the Demon Beat are from Shepherdstown, WV while Elephant Child come from Harrisonburg, VA – so it’s fitting to put them together on the single, because not only are they long time friends, but their music falls in a similar vein as well. Use these two tracks below to hear for yourself.
“Teenage Wasteland” is one of two tracks from the Demon Beat on the record, while “Under the Bridge pt 2” is the lone six-minute suite from Elephant Child. Both tracks look to knock you right on your ass, coming together with heavy, crunchy guitars and a solid, hard rocking attitude. Take “Teenage Wasteland” for example, with it’s big, swallowing guitar hooks that eventually turn into searing guitar solos. As for Elephant Child, their track “Under the Bridge pt 2″ is more of a six minute journey instead of just being your average song. They take us through troubling, psyched-out landscapes, all at a medium pace that will keep you nonchalantly swaying back and forth. Furious guitar washes and bellowing bass lines help characterize their grandiose sound, which excellently sums up this destructive 7”.
