Charmes Samson and Laure Aumon make up the primitive garage duo BIKINI GORGE. Hailing from Rennes, France, their 7″ EP comes from Kizmiaz Records in Nantes and Samson is also in the band Combomatix.
The EP opens with the lazy guitar crunch in “Stranded”, making way for a bruising, tom-heavy beat that buries us deep into the noisy, fuzz-fucked guitars. There’s a poppy vibe flowing from the track despite its dirgy edge, which creates the nasty feeling that these songs could explode at any second. They switch gears in “Make Up Your Mind” for a more punchy, punk-fueled sound, characterized by buzzy guitar shards, scratchy strobe-light textures and Samson’s bold, blown-out howl. B-side “You’re My Jail” would be the theme after a bandit just robbing a bank, driving us further into the fuzzy and mangled pop oblivion with snappy guitar hooks and more of Samson’s raw, raspy vocals.
