Halifax band COLD WARPS just dropped their new 7″ on the FunDog label which is also based in Halifax. The band offers their twisted take on garage pop with some crunchy lo-fi grit.
As far as we’re concerned, this Cold Warps 7″ has just the right amount of fuzz crowding its grooves – not too much that you can’t understand, but just enough that it supplies the songs with a slightly hazy and grungy edge. On top of that, they use catchy guitar hooks to keep things interesting, as proven in the opener “Slimer” with those sharp and frantic guitar spikes. On the B-side, “Dream Creepin'” offers a more straightforward punk sound with a stomping drumbeat and more neurotic guitar hooks, hereby showing that Cold Warps can vary their poppy sound by employing some different tactics. In the end, the future is definitely looking good here. Now check out both of these tracks below and see what you think. Go ahead and grab a 7″ from FunDog if you like what you find!
