The UV Race – Acid Trip 7″

Hailing from Melbourne in Australia is the UV RACE, who just dropped a brand new full length via In the Red Records. This right here is their fourth official single, packed with mind-altering psych mutations from the Sweet Rot label out of Vancouver.

A-side “Acid Trip” is an appropriate name for a song as twisted and strung out as this sounds. It features a constantly buzzing bass driven by jarring and metallic guitar squeals and gritty looping hooks, which together go a long way in making this a colorful and visual journey – hence the “acid”. The broken keyboards give the song a spinning kaleidoscopic quality, which doesn’t really let up for the duration of the track and creates much curiosity. B-side “Speed Freak” follows a whole different formula, and it’s about just what it says – an insomniatic meth-seeker who hasn’t legitimately slept in years. There’s a strange doomsday vibe that comes along with this song, which probably stems from the menacing keyboards. If you’re prone to feeling claustrophobic, this song is NOT for you – parts sound as if they were recorded in an overwhelmingly crowded room full of people.

  1. Coming from someone who has gotten maybe 7 hours of sleep in the last 3 days, I’m really digging “Speed Freak.” Both songs are good, and their album artwork with the centaur, that looks almost like one of those Chinese New Year dragons as the human half, is quite interesting.
