Eastlink – Eastlink CS

This self-titled cassette is the debut release from the rigid Melbourne, Australia punks EASTLINK on a label called Creep Dreams, which is also the debut release for the label.

For those who may not know, Eastlink features members from a variety of Australian bands we all already love, like Total Control, UV Race, Repairs, Lakes and Straightjacket Nation, just to name a few. Other than that, there’s not much to be found out about the band or even the label. As said best by the internet, Eastlink deliver us an obnoxious and blown-out three guitar assault that’s equal parts riff-fueled punk rock and noise-fucked psych. These seven tracks are all as harsh and crude sounding as the next, bringing us a healthy dosage of metallic and lethal guitar fuzz, assisting each track with its crunchy, wrinkled complexion.

“Ansett Australia” is a good place to start. The song is driven by a sloppy, menacing hook, with guitars that squeal and wince over top of the muffled thud of the bass drum. Toward the end, closing statement “Wild Dog” is a fitting snapshot of their sound again, with an evilly troubling vibe as the song slowly sends you on your descent into hell. This track is a bit drawn out and definitely shows off East Link’s tendencies for repetition, which you can hear right below! Also, be sure to check out this crazy collage video for “Wild Dogs.” If you’d like one of these cassette, make a point to send a message to that e-mail below!
