Hot Off the Press this week: San Francisco-based Castle Face Records just dropped a menacing new long-player from USELESS EATERS, followed up by the fourth LP from KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD.

Useless Eaters – Bleeding Moon LP: Seth Sutton is back and we’re pretty sure he’s meaner than ever. Twelve jagged cuts of putrid post-punk radiate out from a smoldering pit of flesh and bones to form Bleeding Moon, his latest musical menace. He employs an array of moves in songs – many familiar, some brand new – that are ravaged by dagger-like guitar arrangements and Sutton’s distinct vocal gnash. There’s a three-track stretch on Bleeding Moon that accurately encapsulates the LP – “Proper Conduct” is a raw, bloody ripper, resulting in a two-pronged beam of grungy chords speckled with a disheveled, can-opening guitar solo. “Aftershock” is a unique cut for Sutton’s whole discography, bringing us to a dark dance floor with corrosive, goth-influenced electronics for a truly frightening punch. “Bleeding Moon” is the album single, driven by a swift, elastic bass line that runs alongside a beam of hot, sputtering guitar flares – needless to say, it’s downright nasty. Sutton’s been dropping these records at an awfully steady rate since 2009, thus proving there’s no end to the unstoppable fury with four LPs in four years.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard – I’m In Your Mind Fuzz LP: – Hop in a space shuttle and let the Gizzard guild take you on a mind-expanding journey through the nooks and crannies of your thoughts. The gang’s latest accomplishment is dense with textures and swirling about with colorful tones. You’re brought to uncharted lands in the great black abyss, beginning immediately as first four tracks meld together thanks to some otherworldly kraut-induced power. The four-track sweep cuts off with “Empty” – a warped and wonky number that differs greatly from the cool, soothing daze of “Slow Jam I.” That said, the band doesn’t take your restless little heart into consideration – the record features a slew of exhilarating twists that keeps your blood pumping until the last possible second. Wispy flutes, lysergic acoustics and middle eastern-flavored haze clouds are all a part of this shape shifting psych monstrosity. Keep your eyes peeled for when their LP becomes available from Castle Face – their records are not easy to get a hold of.
