Based in our lovely home in Philadelphia, HUMANSHAPES have just released a new digital EP. The songs were recorded at local hotspot the Golden Tea House, bringing to life a massively grungy and infectious sound.
Recording this material in the live setting loads this EP with some gut-busting, back-breaking moves. Humanshapes begins with the staggered psychedelic stomp of “Pulse,” which is littered with hazy guitar squeals that brings the underlying aggression to an angry boil. Dirgy guitars and echoed vocals characterize their pummeling brand of noisy, nightmare-ish psych-punk, with seven ugly tracks that come in a variety of shapes and sizes. “Witness” comes with a disheveled surf-punk approach. Dirty bass hooks drive the track from the bottom-up, providing the band with a streamlined rhythm to build their hectic wall of sound on top. The angular “Window” comes off as abrasive as any of these numbers – it’s a minute-and-a-half burner of noisy psychedelic-punk, loaded with shrieking vocals and blown-out guitars that together aim for the throat. Perhaps it has you remembering the Pampers s/t from 2013? Regardless, you should listen to these choice cuts from Humanshapes below, just prepare to be crushed!
