I Get Mynze – Big Whup 7″ EP

Pelican Pow Wow Records in New Orleans and Red Lounge Records in Germany continue to churn out the goods. Their latest is this 7″ EP from members of Legendary Wings and Kalamazoo MENSA chapter board members, I GET MYNZE.

Before this single, Legendary Wings most recent release also came from Pelican Pow Wow – a split 7″ with Buck Biloxi and the Fucks (now sold out!). I Get Mynze is like a dumbed-down or simplified version of Legendary Wings, delivering these fuzzy, blown-out “TV punk” anthems that sometimes barely even last for 60 seconds.

Opener “Big Whup” kicks things off fast with a memorable guitar hook, guiding us with silly call-and-response vocals about getting weed cards, finding cash and committing suicide – to which the expressionless singer repeatedly answers in some fashion, “big whup, nobody cares.” “Spend” confirms the “TV punk” nod you might have been confused about earlier – the track features voice clips from this classic commercial, to which the end result is positively hilarious.
