If a song with a name like “They Should Have Killed You” is the first track of an album by a band called BUCK BILOXI AND THE FUCKS, you should immediately be aware of what you’re getting yourself into. After releasing a handful of 7″ singles over the last year or so, the Fucks got their act together just enough to put out an LP on Germany’s Red Lounge Records.
Chances are you’ve come across these Louisianan mutants before and if you’re reading this they haven’t completely put you off yet. The (dare I say) beauty of this band is that they probably aren’t bothered if you like them or not.
If you own any of the previously released Buck Biloxi singles, some of these songs are going to be familiar to you, although they’ve all been re-recorded and are of better quality than what was originally released. Don’t worry, it doesn’t sound TOO good, just slightly less like a bunch of rats scratching around at the bottom of a dumpster. It’s still the same pleasingly monotone repetitive barely-there punk that we’ve all come to expect from this band, but now it’s possible to hear each instrument and be 100% certain that the drummer isn’t just banging on pots and pans. These songs are so straightforward that it seems almost unfair to spend too much time describing them, as they’re all great. If favorites had to be chosen based on title alone, “The Walls Have AIDS” and “I Look Like Crap” would be at the top of the list.
It wasn’t until a particularly frustrating day of walking through an unbearable part of the city I live in that I understood exactly why this album is so good. A roving group of fringe of society types were loudly chanting nonsense as they strolled behind me, other careless pedestrians were crashing into me and invading my space with their briefcases and shopping bags, enough was enough. Instinctively I pressed play, every song was like a perfect soundtrack. I hate those weirdos on the street. This album, in all of its simplicity and immaturity is exactly what I had been searching for ever since I quelled my disdain for the general population. I will even go so far to describe the experience of listening to it in this particular situation as soothing. This thing really is the ultimate “I hate all of you, I hate myself, I don’t care, shut up” piece of work, so unless you’re Buck Biloxi (or maybe Giorgio Murderer) you’re going to have a hard time writing songs about who/what/why you hate that are this good. This is the perfect album for blocking out the world so you can remain in your grouchy little bubble of piss and vinegar.
