PAINTED PALMS is an electronic duo from Baton Rouge, LA led by Chris Prudhomme and Reese Donohue. Carousel is their second release and first for Polyvinyl Records, which will lead to their debut album in the near future.
This 7″ sees us breaking out of our usual realm just a little bit, coming up above the surface for a fresh breath of air. This 7″ is just that – a refreshing breath of air amongst all the bullshit we’re fed these days. As their story goes, Painted Palms were collaborating via e-mail until Kevin Barnes (of Montreal) found their EP online, to which he asked them to open for of Montreal on a nationwide tour. Naturally, they are now prepping their debut full-length album which will include “Carousel”, but B-side “Click” is exclusive to only this 7″.
On “Carousel”, Painted Palms enlist an array of sounds and textures placed on top of each other, making for a clean and honest electronically-dominated sound. There’s much to love about the aptly named “Carousel” as we’re lost in a perpetually unsettling swirl of glowing synths and glossy textures, revealing hypnotizing guitar hooks and breathy, spectral vocals that only intensify the ethereal vibes. As all the elements of “Carousel” come full-circle, you’ll find yourself in an increasingly intoxicating atmosphere that won’t let go. Guitars are icy and mesmerizing as the bass throbs deep below, showing off an equally memorable and sensible sound that will drill its way into your consciousness. B-side “Click” brings in strobing washes of color for an equally invigorating, dance-inflected anthem, gliding effortlessly across a sea of glimmering electronics that you won’t want to miss.
