MANATEEES (yes with three E’s) are a three-piece punk band from Memphis, Tennessee fronted by Abe White (Oscars, True Sons of Thunder). Their second 7″ Cat Food comes courtesy of Goner Records.
Cat Food is their first single since their debut 7″ Out For Booze on Pelican Pow Wow Records. Together the two tracks included on the new 7″ combine to create just over four minutes of sloppy, world-ending punk rock filled with White’s disgusted, blown-out scowl. “Cat Food” features sharp, concentrated guitar shreds and monotonous “meow” chanting, fortified by the swift and caffeinated rhythm section underneath. They change gears a bit on the B-side with primal, tom-heavy drum beatings, explosive guitar hooks and spiny soloing that creates a menacing, almost surfy sound if you will. Who ever thought a song about building treehouses could sound this nasty?
As for the future we can look to Tic Tac Totally for any Manateees records that will follow. In the meantime you can check out the 7″ right below.
