Everybody knows how busy TY SEGALL has been this year. Slaughterhouse is the second of three albums we were promised from Segall during 2012, meaning this guy is still far from taking a break.
As far as those three albums go, we’ve already heard two of them and we know why each is special. First was the White Fence collaboration which was like an unrelenting journey through an amalgamation of 60s & 70s garage rock, jittery rockabilly, pulsing surf rock and plenty of unexpected twists and turns, which in the end almost helps create more of an abrupt and surprising listening experience. As for Slaughterhouse, the approach is undoubtedly much more straightforward, bringing in a wave of fiery, fuzzy face beating punk action that really serves no other purpose than to knock you on your ass for a full forty minutes. After listening, it’s hard to think you could believe anything otherwise.
The proof is all over the record. Take tracks like “Slaughterhouse,” “The Tongue,” or “Diddy Wah Diddy” if you need immediate answers. “The Tongue” is a rowdy number to begin with, suffering through heavily staggering guitars that only grow angrier as the track unfolds – by the end, you’ll find yourself engulfed by a sea of pulsing fuzz guitars, leaving you with no other option but to cringe and whimper in the relentlessly hellish storm. Similarly in “That’s the Bag I’m In,” the song starts easily enough with a bouncy bass line, only to have it be completely obliterated by fuzzy rage and vengeful noise by the end. Aside from these shorter songs, we also get some more drawn out ragers in tracks like “I Bought My Eyes” or “Wave Goodbye.” These numbers truly are the highlights within the album, which only help intensify it all that much more.
Now it’s your job to check out these songs below. Then go and snag a copy of the album – a win-win situation!

Bought the 10″. It promised a download code on the outside. There was none included. Emailed the record company twice, and haven’t gotten a response. Come on guys, I’m playing by your rules. Are you intentionally driving me to piracy? (By the way, the album’s superb.)
