Hailing from France, VOLAGE are a trashy, four piece garage-pop act with plenty to be excited about. Maddie is their debut EP which they self-released on an edition of 100 on three different colored cassettes.
After listening to their EP, Volage certainly leave us with a ton of promise. The band shows off their wild strand of crunchy, quirky garage-pop, which takes on an array of unpredictable twists and turns that will have your head spinning. None of the five songs seem to overlap, churning out fresh material around each corner, whether it’s the rowdy guitar hook of “Not Enuff” or the subtly growing finale of “I’m a Fool.” As this heated ending begins to unfold in “I’m a Fool,” you’ll realize that they’re not slowing down, in fact, they’re doing the complete opposite. This track alone is worthy of another spin, let alone this entire EP.
Coming toward the end, EP closer “Bob is Alive” holds a different vibe than the rest – it’s overflowing with a thick layer of murky, lo-fi gunk that produces a lazy, sloppy sound to close out the EP. Pulsing bass lines are complemented by the twangy sting of the crusty guitars, sealing up a solid yet too short collection of songs that will have you begging for more.
