It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from Whoa! Boat Records out in Seattle. BELT OF VAPOR marks the first in a new batch of singles from the label.
For those who might not be familiar, Belt of Vapor hail from Spokane, Washington and Buck looks like their first 7″ to date. This nasty trio plays a fiery brand of grunge-punk that makes for a challenging listen with some twists and turns. B-side “Genius/Failure” begins with its frantic guitar licks and manic percussion, all while a raspy Aaron Powell guides us through the madness. Suddenly the song hits a wall a bit before the two minute mark and we’re left in a mysterious swirl of glowing guitars and pulsing bass lines. They continue to ride out on these contemplative vibes, making for a thought-provoking track with an undeniably punishing finale. On the A-side, “Buck” turns out to be a bit more straight-forward with it’s roughed-up and sharp guitar hooks, making for a rollicking and electrified atmosphere that’ll have you cringing in terror. Now check both sides of the single below and go snag one from Whoa! Boat Records – the first 100 come on green vinyl!
