Here’s something fresh and relatively unheard of for y’all. It’s not everyday we cover French bands, but that’s exactly where LES GUILLOTINES can be found – in France! This is their debut 7″ from the Croque Macadam label.
Their 7″ sees them playing garage rock in your typical rowdy fashion, plagued with all sorts of guitar crunch and twang that makes it seem like these guys have had plenty of practice. That being said, they are following the garage rock textbook word for word. Their sound is invigorating, energetic and best of all, fresh and ambitious. When it comes to music, it doesn’t get much better than that. On top of that, this single leaves a ton of promise for their future, which is something we’d like to keep an eye on.
The B-side track “L’Absinthe” speaks for all of those characteristics, summing up what they’re all about in a nearly three minute song. Manic drumming, stinging guitars and pummeling bass lines (don’t forget the “very cheap theremin”) combine into a bruising whirlwind and leave you feeling slightly concussed. After the resurgence of energy into second half of the track, you’ll be totally sold. Don’t sleep on this stuff or you’ll be sorry!
