The newest offering from Fin Records of Seattle is another 7″ from THE DIVING BELL, being their second release to date from 2011. It’s not clear at the moment, but these singles are probably leading up to a full length LP at some point.
In reference to their first 7″ that we covered a few months back, this new one here is like traveling through a whole new landscape of lush and vibrant indie rock. Searing guitar leads and experienced vocals combine together in these warmly layered songs, creating an upbeat yet relaxed notion in a song like “China, My China”. Flip the 7″ however, and suddenly you’re catapulted into a swirling psychedelic cloud of curiosity that drags along at a grueling pace. A bit before the halfway mark the song pops off without any warning whatsoever, revealing rippling organ waves paired with sizzling guitars to create this hot and bothered atmosphere that lazily limps along. While that may sound like the truth, the song is actually far from lazy. In fact, they seemed to have gone above and beyond with their single here, as proven by this B-side “Cross Dressing Friends”.
