THE TWERPS, as we mentioned before, hail from Melbourne, Australia. This here is their second 7″ single, released this past May by the Group Tightener label out of Brooklyn, New York.
We covered The Twerps 7″ single from Underwater Peoples a few months back, but you could say we forgot about this one here. Don’t take that the wrong way though – it’s far from mediocre and basically just got lost in a messy shitstorm of other music around this place. These Australian dudes certainly know how to pen down some catchy indie pop jams, characterized with their dreamy complexions, throbbing basses, thoughtful lyrics and those gently delicate guitars that fall somewhere between glowing and shredded.
Twangy guitar licks lead the way in “Anything New”, where lead singer and guitarist Marty Frawley wails with the utmost confidence as he sways along the breezy landscape. Closing number “Peculiar” sounds familiarly like a Real Estate song expect they traded away Martin Courtney, but regardless it’s a standout track with its calming, relaxing vibes. The middle and ending of the track reveals a swelling wave of jangly guitars, showing off both instrumental skill and admirable craftsmanship of these delightful pop songs. Switching back around to the beginning, “She Didn’t Know” shows off a more driving sound in regards to the rest of these soothing tracks, with its lysergic synths sticking out like a sore thumb in the middle of the song and proving even more dynamic abilities of this band. The future is certainly looking bright at this point for these boys, so don’t miss out on these tracks below!
