New Pleasure – s/t 7″

Here’s a new one to add to your radar: it’s the debut 7″ from Nashville band NEW PLEASURE. If you have been looking for a new, unfamiliar name this is about as fresh as it gets.

Their 7″ comes from Human Pie Records, which appears to still be fairly brand new and growing. However, if it weren’t for our friends over at the excellent GET BENT! blog, we’d never have the pleasure of sharing this one with all you. Luckily that is not the case, but if you enjoy what we post here on a regular basis, Get Bent will also be right up your alley. Check it out.

For their debut 7″, these Nashville boys bring some promise to the table for what could be an interesting future. Included on their 7″ is a mere nine minutes of striped down country punk, mixed with a short chunk of weirdo noise collage that is nothing short of a musical oddity (“The ____ of the Body Found”). Aside from that is the special stuff, the most notable being “Blue Heron”. Don’t let the sloppy scuzz fool you either because it’s actually quite an organized track. Crispy guitars and a steady beat push the song forward into what is a surely musky sound from the jagged complexion. These only intensify the metallic, tin can quality of the recordings where everything culminates into a nasty guitar lick that excellently rounds out the track. Another sure highlight comes in the straight rocking “I Don’t Wanna Wanna”, where punk-inflected power chords come through with a swirling flange effect that brings the guitars to the next level. Hear’em both below and see what you think.
